Welcome to Class Dove and Class Robin.
We are year 5 and our teachers are Mrs Deren and Miss Holtam.
We spent the first few weeks of term settling back into school and getting used to year 5 routines. We worked hard; practising our basic skills, getting to know each other and getting ready to start our first learning adventure, Gourmet Gousto! We put our heads together and we designed a fun filled context where we will become Healthy, Ethical Entrepreneurs.
Take a look at some of the exciting things we’ve been doing:
We’re learning our 3, 4 and 8 times tables this half term. We use Times Tables Rockstars to help us get faster at remembering our table facts. We do this every day in school but the more practice we get, the better we’ll be.
We complete a Big Maths CLIC test every Friday. Mrs Deren and Miss Holtam help us plug our learning gaps in our personalised skills sessions every day.
In our groups, we learn a new spelling pattern each week. We use Spellshed every day to help us practise these words. We can log in and play games at home for extra revision.
Year 5 take part in the accelerated reading scheme, where they are given 20 minute independent reading time every day. AR is a computer program that helps to manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Children pick a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, they take a short quiz on the computer - passing the quiz is an indication they understand what has been read. AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results which the teacher then uses to help the child set targets and ongoing reading practice.
MyOn is a website linked with the AR programme. Children can access a variety of books in their reading band, both in school and at home. We encourage children to read as much as possible so please read as much as you can at home too. Log in details will be sent home in the first few weeks. Please get in touch with Mrs Deren if you need any assistance accessing the site.
PE lessons will be on a Tuesday and taught by Mrs O’Neil or Mrs Deren/Miss Holtam. Please make sure that on Tuesday:
