Things to Remember

  • It’s important that we arrive promptly at school.  Doors open at 8.40 for a 8.50 start.
  • Children need to attend school before or after a medical/dentist appointment
  • If a child is ill and can’t attend school for whatever reason, contact the school immediately
  • Bring a healthy snack for break time and a bottle of water to keep you hydrated throughout the day
  • Download the Seesaw Family app to see our wonderful work and keep up to date with news, letters and homework.
  • We encourage children to practise their basic skills as much as possible - times tables, reading, spelling, writing etc.   Please find links to the various sites that we use below.  All log in details will be sent hone in the first few weeks.
  • Homework will be sent home on a Friday and will need to be completed by the following Thursday.  All homework will be uploaded to Seesaw.
  • If you have any question please contact Mrs Deren through the Seesaw Family app.

We’re learning our 3, 4 and 8 times tables this half term.  We use Times Tables Rockstars to help us get faster at remembering our table facts.  We do this every day in school but the more practice we get, the better we’ll be.

We complete a Big Maths CLIC test every Friday.  Mrs Deren and Miss Holtam help us plug our learning gaps in our personalised skills sessions every day.

In our groups, we learn a new spelling pattern each week.  We use Spellshed every day to help us practise these words.  We can log in and play games at home for extra revision.

Accelerated Reading (AR)

Year 5 take part in the accelerated reading scheme, where they are given 20 minute independent reading time every day. AR is a computer program that helps to manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Children pick a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, they take a short quiz on the computer - passing the quiz is an indication they understand what has been read. AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results which the teacher then uses to help the child set targets and ongoing reading practice.

MyOn is a website linked with the AR programme.  Children can access a variety of books in their reading band, both in school and at home.  We encourage children to read as much as possible so please read as much as you can at home too.  Log in details will be  sent home in the first few weeks.  Please get in touch with Mrs Deren if you need any assistance accessing the site.

PE lessons will be on a Tuesday and taught by Miss Patel or Mrs Deren. Please make sure that on Tuesday:

  • Children wear PE kit to school - black or navy joggers, house colour t-shirt and trainers
  • Children are not wearing jewellery
  • Long hair is tied back
  • Children bring extra water
