Croeso i Dosbarth Elm!
Welcome to Class Elm!
Welcome to Class Elm's page, we are a year 4 class and our teacher is Mrs Rowley. Over this Autumn term our topic is 'The Terrible Tudors'. Did you know that the first Tudor King - Henry VII was Welsh? We will be learning all about life of both the rich and the poor during Tudor times, portrait painting and Tudor music - they loved to dance! We will be learning all about 'Our Sustainable Earth' in Science and about 'Rules' in RE, so we're going to have a busy term!
Keep checking back to see what fun things we have been doing!
Our class representatives : School Council : Ellis Flavin & Kobi Thomas : Eco Committee!
Spelling B Mondays
Mondays are the usual days for our spelling tests - based on the words that we will need in our school work - this knowledge is important to allow us to read and complete our daily activities.
Please encourage your child to practise their spellings every night!
Wednesdays are our PE days and also Non-Uniform as we come to school in our PE CLOTHES and TRAINERS (leggings, joggers, t-shirts please).
in the interests of your child's health and safety
PLEASE REMOVE ALL JEWELLERY BEFORE COMING TO SCHOOL ON PE DAYS!
We had our first session this afternoon and it went well - the children revised the 3 notes they learned last time and nearly all of them were able to hold the instrument and play it correctly and confidently!
BEAT THAT! Fridays
Our learning focus in maths will extend this term to include the 4, 7 and 8 times tables.
Please help your child to learn them and to achieve great scores in their weekly Learn Its test.
Homework - homework will be set weekly including spellings, possibly handwriting practice and maths learn its sheets. On-line reading and maths activities will be set on the children's Activelearn or Purplemash accounts, the children have their login information.
Reading books can be changed as often as they are returned, the children need to read each book 3 times - 1st to build accuracy, 2nd time to develop comprehension and finally to reread it confidently using skills such as expression, fluency and pace (in Chapter books, this will involve re reading the previous chapter before moving on to the next one)
*Please try and read with them and encourage them to read as often as possible.
*Please sign the comment box in their reading record each time you read with them.
