Thinking and learning today to help us all tomorrow.

Year 3 Oak

Croeso i Dosbarth Oak

Welcome to Year 3

Our context for the autumn term is

 ‘Scrumdidlyumptious’

Through this context the children will learn about food and healthy eating.

They will also be developing their skills in Literacy and Numeracy

Our class teacher is Mrs Freeman.

Please keep visiting to see the wonderful things we are learning about!

PE

PE lessons will be every Thursday and taught by Mrs O'Brien. Please make sure that on Thursdays:

  • Your child wears PE kit to school - black or navy joggers
  • Your child is wearing sensible shoes - trainers
  • Your child is wearing no jewellery

Homework

In order to make good progress in their learning, every week your child will need to:

  • practise their times tables -  this term we are focussing largely on our 3X tables, but will also be keeping our 2,5 and 10X tables on the boil to ensure we remain confident with them.
  • practise their spellings - a suitable word list will be sent home on a Friday, and then all children will be tested on this list the following Friday - giving them plenty of time to learn them!
  • read - suitable books will be set for your child on Bug Club library which is levelled correctly for their reading ability. We ask that you aim to listen to your child read 3 times a week to accompany the various reading activities we provide in school.

A mini project linked to our 'Scrumdiddlyumptious' topic will be given at the beginning of the term. Your child can choose which activity to carry out each week and how they would like to present it.

Red homework books will be provided for any homework/spellings your child carries out.

Accelerated reading

Year 3 take part in the accelerated reading scheme, where they are given 20 minute independent reading time every day. AR is a computer program that helps to manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer - passing the quiz is an indication that your child has understood what has been read. AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results which the teacher then uses to help the child set targets and ongoing reading practice.
